Welsh football manager Mike Fowler has revealed he has been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour, weeks after stepping down from his role as Redditch United boss.

A former Wales youth international, Fowler took charge of the Southern Football League Premier Division side in May last year, guiding them through a successful campaign as they narrowly missed out on a play-off spot on goal difference. However, it was announced at the end of July that he was leaving the club by mutual consent, taking supporters by surprise.
Now, he has shared that, after being in poor health for the last couple of months, medical tests have revealed he has a large tumour on his brain, with the former Forest Green Rovers and Newport County man admitting the diagnosis has been "a lot to take in".
In an update on social media, Fowler wrote: "I have some difficult news to share. After a couple of months of poor health and a number of tests, I was told I have a malignant brain tumour."
"The positive news is that, at this stage, there is no indication that it has spread. However, the tumour is large and there are still further tests and some big decisions ahead as my medical team works out the best course of treatment, including whether surgery is possible.
"It's a lot to take in but I'm taking things one day at a time," he added. "I've been incredibly fortunate to have so many good people around me and I can't thank everyone enough for the messages, calls, visits and support.
"It genuinely means more than I can say. There are challenges ahead but for now I'm focusing on the next step and staying positive."
Support from the football community
Fowler, who previously served as manager of Tamworth, assistant manager at Forest Green and academy boss at Solihull Moors, has received an outpouring of support from across the football community.
A club statement from Tamworth read: "Sending love and strength to our former Manager Mike Fowler during an incredibly difficult and challenging time for him, his friends and family.
"Mike has sadly been unwell recently and released his own statement today via social media, stating he was informed that he had a brain tumour at the end of last week.
"On behalf of everyone associated with Tamworth FC, we are all here to support you and we wish you all the best, hoping for brighter days ahead."
Redditch forward Alex Cameron, who served as captain under Fowler last season, wrote: "You've got this brother", while former Reds boss Matt Clarke added: "You've got this Mike, positive mindset big fella."
Former Solihull Moors captain Kyle Storer also offered his support, as he wrote: "Fowls, incredibly difficult news to read my friend but knowing the person you are, you will get through this like any other challenge you've had.
"Stay strong and stay positive and always here if you need anything."
