Jordan Ellis from Beddau lost nine stone after years of struggling with his mental health. The 30-year-old, who weighed 22.3 stone at his heaviest, changed his lifestyle in 2025 and now weighs 13 stone.

Struggles with mental health

Jordan started suffering with his mental health when studying at university. He left home at 18 to pursue further education and everything was great until he started to suffer with psychosis, depression and anxiety. This ongoing battle led him to gain weight, experience suicidal thoughts and he was even sectioned for his wellbeing.

He said at the time it felt like people were only just starting to talk about mental health, and he felt "a bit embarrassed to say anything" to his friends and family. His family were unaware of his struggle whilst living at university, and it came as a shock to them when he was sectioned.

Turning point and weight loss

Jordan said that for months he wouldn't leave the house, and that he remembers his mother and sister coming to visit and check on him because they were worried. At this point Jordan weighed in at 22.3 stone due to a bad relationship with food, and said he was "really miserable" as everything he had tried would fail.

Then he decided enough was enough, on a random Thursday morning in 2025, he woke up and changed his lifestyle completely. Three months later, he was two stone lighter. After initially losing five stone from walking, playing football, and cutting out bread and Pepsi Max, Jordan decided to join the gym where he lost a further four stone.

Inspiring others and future plans

Jordan, who never believed he could run, has not only started running in public but has also ran half marathons, and is planning to run London Marathon for Sarcoma UK next year in memory of his friend's daughter. He hopes that one day he can run the length of Britain.

His family are extremely proud, especially as he has shared his story online. His mother said, "our youngest son proving it's never too late." His sister said something that has stuck with him: "you've become the person I always thought you would be."

Jordan is now documenting his health and fitness journey on Instagram @jordanelsfit.
