Reece May, who once weighed almost 36 stone, has opened up about his life-changing weight loss of 15 stone. He appeared on Good Morning Britain on Wednesday, 5 August, to share his story with presenters Richard Madeley and Charlotte Hawkins.
At his heaviest, May consumed around 15,000 calories a day, including two kebabs for breakfast. He feared he was 'eating himself to death', as Charlotte explained to viewers.
Turning His Life Around
Now, May exercises five days a week, has overhauled his diet, and used weight-loss jabs for two months to aid his journey. He described the jabs as 'phenomenal', saying they helped him 'regain control of my life'.
His transformation comes after years of harassment, the bereavement of both parents, and a dependency on food, which left him feeling 'trapped in a cycle'.
A New Perspective
Reflecting on his past, May said: 'I used to feel really bad. It was that bad. It sent me to a dark, depressive state, and to be honest, I'm glad I got out of it.'
He added: 'For the first time in my entire life, I'm happy, I really am. I've got a girlfriend sitting out there, I've got a life, got my own house, got a career, got my business.'
Comparing his change to 'being taken over by a different person', May said: 'I feel like I'm a different person compared to last year. Last year's person, I don't remember who he is, because I've gone through that much of a change. It's like I've torn myself down and rebuilt myself the way I want to rebuild it.'
Message to Others
May shared a message for those in a similar situation: 'You can believe in yourself, you have to believe in yourself in order to do it. Get the right support network around you, you keeping yourself silenced in a vacuum in a depressive state is not strength. Admitting you need help is strength, once you admit you need help you're on the first step to recovery. If I can do it, anyone can.'
