Friends of the survivors of the M9 crash have provided a fresh update on their condition as they continue to recuperate following the accident. Sisters Ella, Niamh, and Alma Kinsella, all in their 20s and 30s, are currently hospitalised alongside Alma's seven-year-old son.
The family were travelling to Dublin Airport for an overseas family wedding when their Hyundai was hit by a BMW driven the wrong way on the motorway by teenagers, who were all killed in the collision.
'Long recovery ahead'
Friends of the sisters have disclosed that they face a 'long recovery ahead'. Despite their serious injuries, friends remain hopeful that they will fully recover, reports RSVP Live.
A friend told the Irish Mail on Sunday: "They have a long, long recovery ahead of them. One of them has spinal injuries and there are a lot of broken bones. [The Child] broke a leg. People are relieved none of them are in a brain specialist hospital so that means none of them are brain-damaged."
"God forbid there's a change. We think they will recover but how long that is going to take no one knows. Their injuries may be life-altering but to the extent they may be life-altering, well, no one knows that at the moment."
Surgeries during the week
Another friend told the publication: "It has been touch and go and they have moved from critical to seriously injured. There were surgeries during the week. [The Child] has a broken leg and he asked for his cast to be painted red because he is a Manchester United supporter."
Bryan Curley, who set the GoFundMe up on behalf of his best friend and her sisters, said they are facing a 'long and challenging road ahead'.
