The father of former LSU football star Kyren Lacy has shared an emotional message about mental health following his son's apparent suicide. The 24-year-old died in his car while being pursued by authorities in Houston over the weekend, according to a Harris County sheriff's report.
Lacy was facing criminal charges stemming from a fatal car crash in Louisiana last December that had clouded his NFL prospects. His case was set to go before a grand jury on Monday.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, Kenny Lacy urged parents to talk to their children about mental health. 'Mental Health is real, and for the most part, it's invisible. Don't ignore the signs, even if they may seem small,' he wrote.
Kyren Lacy allegedly drove recklessly in December, causing a crash that killed 78-year-old Herman Hall. Lacy fled the scene and was later charged with negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run and reckless operation of a vehicle. His attorney has called the case a 'gross miscarriage of justice'.
Lacy played 12 games for LSU last season, recording 58 catches and 866 receiving yards. He declared for the NFL draft days after the wreck but did not play in LSU's Texas Bowl victory.
