Former Made in Chelsea star Louise Thompson has revealed she has been fitted with a stoma bag, describing it as 'the price I pay for good health' after years of battling ulcerative colitis. The 34-year-old shared a photo on Instagram showing the bag attached to her stomach, saying it 'saved her life'.
In her post, Thompson acknowledged the announcement was 'not glamorous' but said she did not want to keep it hidden forever. She asked followers: 'How do I disclose this sort of news?' and compared it to a pregnancy or gender reveal, calling it 'not exactly exciting'.
Thompson, who was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in 2018, wrote: 'So I guess I'll just stand here, proud in stature, with my new friend, le bum bag, that represents life and hopefully a better one. Isn't it bizarre that this little grey pouch is the price I pay for good health!' She added 'good riddance to that nasty menacing colon' and urged fans to 'be kind'.
Ulcerative colitis causes inflammation of the colon and rectum. Some patients require a stoma, an opening in the abdomen that diverts waste into a bag. Thompson had previously shared hospital photos in December 2023 and February 2024, citing inflammation and frequent bathroom visits.
Thompson joins other reality stars like The Traitors' Mollie Pearce, 21, who also uses a stoma bag after having her colon removed in 2020. Pearce has said her goal is to raise awareness and break the taboo around stomas.
