Life in the Dales Star Capper Recalls Heartbreaking Phone Call

Life in the Dales star Capper has spoken candidly about a heartbreaking phone call he received after a close friend died in a road accident. The emotional revelation came during last week's episode of the Channel 5 programme, where Capper and his co-star Sonny bravely opened up about grief and mental health struggles.

Emotional Episode Strikes a Chord

In the episode, Capper recalled receiving the phone call about his friend who died in a road accident. "He drove there and never made it back home. About half an hour later, I got the phone call... it was nasty. He was there, and then he's not," Capper said. He first dealt with loss at age seven and lost his best friend when he was 16. Sonny also broke down in tears while remembering a close friend who died by suicide. "I lost my pal, unfortunately, to suicide. He was like a brother. I was speaking to him the night before, got the phone call the next morning. They couldn't bring him back," Sonny shared.

Fundraising Success and Viewer Support

The pair committed to fundraising for mental health charity, and Capper later revealed on Instagram that they had raised nearly £4,000. "Thanks for all your kind comments and generous donations, it really means the world to us. We've raised nearly £4000 now!" he wrote. Capper also posted a video thanking fans, saying: "It was a hard one to film, but it's been well worth doing. The positive feedback that we've had has been unreal." He added: "It struck a chord, it really did. I sound soft again but thank you very much, what we've raised so far has been brilliant."

Another said: "Nothing soft about what you and Sonny said, it inspired me to donate." Capper responded: "You may be proud of us, but we're proud of you." The episode highlighted the importance of men's mental health, with Capper stating: "It's ok to not be ok, everyone has their battles, and I'm very lucky I've got you, boys."

Life in the Dales airs Tuesdays at 8pm on Channel 5.
