Lauren Laverne addressed her health condition while presenting The One Show with Alex Jones on Tuesday, August 4. The pair introduced a segment about hospitals taking services into shopping centres, which helps patients and brings people back to town centres.

Referring to her health after the feature, Laverne told Jones: "What a great idea. I mean, Al, you know, I have to do quite a lot of outpatient appointments." She added that the idea of having them somewhere more relaxed, less medicalised than a hospital, "would be quite nice" and "really appeals to me."
Jones replied: "Well, you know, the fact, as said, it brings people back to the high street. So it's a win-win, really, isn't it?" Laverne agreed: "Absolutely."
Diagnosis announced earlier this year
Laverne revealed her diagnosis of smouldering myeloma, a blood and bone marrow disorder that can lead to blood cancer in some people, earlier this year. In July, she posted on Instagram: "I've been diagnosed with something called smouldering myeloma (yes that is a weird name and no I'd never heard of it either)." She noted it is asymptomatic and that the risk of developing blood cancer in her case is "pretty low," adding she feels OK and does not need treatment.
She described it as a chronic condition with no cure yet, meaning her immune system is somewhat compromised, so she will need to take care of herself and be monitored with blood tests, MRIs, and bone marrow biopsies. This came two years after she said she had the "all clear" after treatment for an unspecified cancer.
