Former Countryfile presenter Julia Bradbury has admitted she is “still looking for answers” after her battle with breast cancer. Julia, 56, was first diagnosed in 2021 after doctors found a six-centimetre tumour in her left breast, and underwent a mastectomy to treat the condition. She also had surgery to reconstruct her breast, followed by chemotherapy to ensure the disease was under control.
Emotional Statement on Instagram
Now, five years on from her original battle, Julia has shared an emotional statement with fans on social media, admitting she had “100 questions” when she was first told she had cancer. She explained on Instagram: “In 2021 I heard the word cancer and went home with a head full of questions. Five years on, I’m still asking them.
“The difference is that now I get to sit across from the doctors, researchers and scientists with some of the sharpest minds in health and medicine, to ask the things I wish I’d asked back then.
“Not just cancer, the whole picture of staying well for longer. I can’t promise you every answer. But I can keep asking, and share what I learn with you.”
New Podcast Episodes
Julia pointed to her podcast, which will release new episodes every Wednesday, dealing with various health and medicine topics. She went on to say: “Every 2 minutes, someone in the UK hears, ‘You have cancer’. In 2021 that was me. Then I learned that in the UK around 4 in 10 cancers are linked to things we can change. Why wasn’t anyone shouting about that?
“So I started asking. Scientists, doctors, researchers. Every answer opened three more questions.
“Mum and Dad are both in their 80s. Both cancer survivors. That’s why I care about ageing well, not just living longer.
“A book can’t answer back. But a podcast can. So I’ve been sitting down with some of the sharpest minds in health and medicine to ask the questions that need answering. And not just about cancer.
“Like why heartburn isn’t always just heartburn. How my muscles could help build my immune system. And what things I can test for.”
