Vice President JD Vance has described President Donald Trump's unusual sleep habits, saying the 80-year-old frequently works past midnight and calls Cabinet members at all hours. The comments have intensified concerns about the president's health.
Vance Discusses Trump's Late-Night Calls
Speaking on the All In podcast, Vance covered topics ranging from the upcoming midterms to artificial intelligence. He said Trump often works beyond midnight and has even phoned Cabinet members in the early hours asking, "Are you awake?"
Vance added: "Scott Bessent always jokes he'll call us at 2.30am and he'll say 'were you up?' And it's like, no sir, I wasn't, but I am now! He's working at all hours of the day!"
Social Media Reactions and Health Worries
Health concerns have surrounded Trump, who became the oldest person ever sworn in as US President, according to the Irish Star. The video snippet, shared on X, drew worried responses from viewers.
One commenter wrote: "You act like this highly unhealthy behavior is a testament to some prowess to go without rest. It's not and there is a physical and mental price to pay." Another said: "He's about as much use as an Energizer bunny... He just goes on and on... Being f****** pointless." A third joked: "Posting smack on Truth Social isn't any non-MAGA's idea of 'working'. I guess his bile and cruelty keeps him awake."
Nodding Off at Public Events
Trump's sleep habits may be affecting his performance, as he has been caught nodding off during daytime commitments. Recently, he appeared to fall asleep at several points during a 9/11 event, slumped in his chair with his eyes shut and head drooping.
Online commentators noted he looked "sleepy" during the ceremony, with his eyes completely closed at times, including during Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's speech. One account on X with more than 100,000 followers said: "A sleepy Donald Trump has decided to take a nap at the Pentagon Ceremony." Another wrote: "Watching the 9/11 memorial and Trump is asleep. Trump can't keep his eyes open even on September 11. Camera was on him for some time and he barely moved."
The White House dismissed these claims, with spokesperson David Ingle stating: "President Trump was solemnly listening and remembering the victims and heroic first responders who tragically lost their lives on that fateful day. Anyone ridiculously claiming the president was asleep is lying."
