Hollyoaks Star Shares Mental Health Update After Depression

Hollyoaks star Malique Thompson-Dwyer has shared a very honest post about his mental health. The 28-year-old actor, best known for playing Prince McQueen in the Channel 4 soap, took to Instagram to update fans on his life and feelings.

Malique, who has also appeared in I’m A Celebrity and Celebs Go Dating, often shares pictures that give followers a glimpse into his life off-screen. Recently, he posted images of himself out and about, on the Hollyoaks set, and with loved ones. In the caption, he admitted that the last two years ‘haven’t been easy’.

‘Life lately,’ he began. ‘Life is one big learning curve, full of lessons that shape into who you’re meant to be. The last two years haven’t been easy. Feelings of depression, body dysmorphia, anxiety, days where I couldn’t see a way forward. But God had a plan bigger than my pain.’

He added: ‘Here I am. Still standing.’ Malique credited his faith in Jesus Christ, the gym, work, family, and learning to believe in himself again. ‘Consistency and prayer changed everything. Praise the Lord.’

Offering advice to others in similar situations, he said: ‘Life is you vs. you. Get out of your own way. Buy the clothes. Book the flight. Learn to love yourself. Nothing is impossible. I’m living proof. If you’re in a dark place right now, it doesn’t have to be the end of your story.’

Malique's Hollyoaks Journey

Malique has played Prince McQueen on and off since 2016. The character, son of Goldie McQueen and Shane Sweeney, has endured much drama in the village. Prince returned to screens in September 2021 with his fiancée Olivia Bradshaw. Goldie was devastated when they planned to move to New Zealand for Olivia's teaching job, so she ruined the application, forcing them to stay.

Olivia and Prince worked at Hollyoaks High School, but Prince was fired after vodka bottles hidden by John Paul McQueen were found by students. Most recently, Prince tried to connect with Vicky Grant, but she insisted he stop using steroids before any romance.

Mental Health Awareness

Malique's candid post highlights ongoing struggles with mental health, including depression and body dysmorphia. His message of hope and resilience resonates with many fans facing similar challenges.
