GB News host Stephen Dixon forced off air after health battle

GB News presenter Stephen Dixon is taking time off the air after struggling with a health condition that has left him feeling like he has "crashed". The 52-year-old news presenter has worked on the channel since 2021 and has had more airtime lately after stepping in to replace Eamonn Holmes, who is also off air following health issues.

Stephen's husband reveals sick note

Former Sky News star Stephen presents alongside Ellie Costello and Anne Diamond in the GB News Breakfast slot, which airs seven days per week from 6am. But fans tuning in over the coming weeks will note that Stephen is not on the air as he has been granted time off.

The star has previously been open about living with Type 1 diabetes for more than three decades, having been diagnosed at age 17. Now Stephen's husband, Daniel, has explained that the host will be absent from screens for the next seven days.

First sick note in 35 years

Taking to Stephen's Instagram on Sunday, Daniel shared a photo of the star via Stories alongside a short message. It said: "As many know, Stephen has lived with T1 Diabetes since the age of 17.

"He's been a workaholic for 35 years, spending 25+ of them on the 3am–10am shift, but he has finally crashed. For the first time ever at 50, he's on his first sick note."

The statement continued: "GB News have been incredibly supportive. He just needs a bit of time to get through this and will be back next week."

Stephen's previous comments on diabetes

Stephen himself has previously opened up about living with diabetes and how it can leave him feeling drained. He said in 2023: "As much as my specialists marvel at how well controlled I am and, to be honest, heap praise on me when I'm being checked out, 31 years in and I AM TIRED.

"It is a constant drain. Always checking, always monitoring, always calculating. Sometimes it does just get you down. Sometimes I would just love a pizza without worrying that I'm going to feel ill for 24 hours after, I'd love to indulge over Christmas without the same concerns.

"Or I'd like to go for a walk, or a swim without worrying that my glucose levels will crash through the floor, making me feel like I'm about to peg out.

"I have mentored lots of young people over the years, tried to dispel their concerns over what their futures hold, and I've done it with the very best of intentions, but for the first time ever, I get a sense of their despair."

Eamonn Holmes continues recovery

Meanwhile, Eamonn Holmes continues to be off the air after being admitted to hospital in April after suffering a stroke. A GB News spokesperson said at the time: "Eamonn was taken ill last week, and it was later confirmed he had suffered a stroke.

"He is currently responding well to treatment. Eamonn has asked for privacy as he focuses on getting better. His colleagues and everyone at GB News wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming him back to the People's Channel when he is ready to return."

The following day, Eamonn himself released a short statement on social media, expressing his determination to get well soon. His son, Declan, released a statement thanking fans for their support, but also requesting privacy.

He wrote: "We'd really value a bit of privacy as we navigate it [sic], and what lies ahead, but thank you again for the support as it means so much to dad and the rest of the family."
