The Boys Star Erin Moriarty Lost Ability to Walk Due to Graves' Disease During Filming

Erin Moriarty, who plays Starlight in the Prime Video series The Boys, has revealed that she lost the ability to walk while filming the latest season due to her Graves' disease symptoms peaking. The actor shared the details on social media after the release of the fourth episode of the fifth and final season.

In an Instagram post, Moriarty wrote that the episode was one of the most important she had ever shot, but it coincided with her health issues worsening before her diagnosis. She stated that she started to lose the ability to walk, and the numbness in her feet led to frequent falls. The night before filming her segment, she fell and injured her knee.

Moriarty disclosed her Graves' disease diagnosis in June last year, describing symptoms of nausea and exhaustion. She noted that she had initially attributed her condition to stress and fatigue, but began feeling stronger within 24 hours of starting treatment. Graves' disease is a form of hyperthyroidism caused by the immune system producing antibodies that overstimulate the thyroid gland.

The actor said her injury and worsening symptoms affected her ability to fully enjoy the production, and she has few behind-the-scenes shots from the season. She expressed frustration with autoimmune disease and the ignorance surrounding it, emphasising the importance of speaking out.
