Erin Moriarty, best known for portraying Annie January, also known as Starlight, in the hit series The Boys, has disclosed that she sustained injuries and experienced a significant worsening of her Graves' disease symptoms while filming the show's fifth season.
Health Deterioration During Production
The actress took to Instagram to share that her health declined considerably around the time of shooting season 5, episode 4. She reported numbness in her feet, which subsequently led to a loss of her ability to walk. Moriarty recounted falling and severely injuring her knee the night before she was scheduled to film her scenes for that episode, directly linking the accident to the escalating symptoms of her autoimmune condition.
Frustration with Autoimmune Disease
Having publicly revealed her Graves' disease diagnosis in June of the previous year, Moriarty expressed her deep frustration with autoimmune diseases and the widespread lack of understanding surrounding them. She noted that her condition prevented her from fully enjoying the production process, a sentiment she shared with her followers.
Understanding Graves' Disease
Graves' disease is a form of hyperthyroidism in which the immune system mistakenly attacks the thyroid gland, causing it to overproduce hormones. Common symptoms include a rapid heart rate, tremors, difficulty sleeping, and weight loss. Moriarty's experience highlights the unpredictable and debilitating nature of the condition.
