Dancing On Ice star Alex Murphy in tears over fertility setback

Dancing on Ice star Alex Murphy broke down in tears as she updated fans on her fertility journey this week. The professional skater, 36, who won the ITV reality show with Joe Swash in 2020, has undergone several rounds of IVF to become a parent with her partner, Paul Klein, 38. The couple have yet to succeed, as Murphy explained they had suffered another setback.

Uterine Wash Leads to Delay

Taking to Instagram, wiping away her tears, she revealed she had undergone a uterine wash, as suggested by a fertility doctor, ahead of another round of IVF. A uterine wash involves bathing the uterus cavity with a solution such as saline or a specific antibiotic to remove or treat abnormalities or infections.

Unfortunately, after the procedure, Murphy said her microbiome had dropped from 98% to 0.43% – meaning she would have to wait at least another three months before having IVF again. According to doctors, a balanced microbiome supports hormone regulation and creates the best environment for embryo implantation.

Murphy's Regret

Admitting her angst over the wait, Murphy said: “I’m mostly mad at myself for not questioning everything and for not asking a million questions and for not saying, ‘Oh, well, why do I need that?’ Like, I just didn’t know.”

Claiming she just "went along" with the uterine wash, she continued: “And I just like went along with it. And I’m so disappointed in myself. And I think that that’s like why I’ve been upset for the past few days, because I’m like, I’ve let myself down.”

Revealing she was angry at herself for not "doing more research" into her fertility plan, she concluded: "I should have asked more questions. I should have done more research. It’s my frigging body. And I turned around and I let somebody else take control of it. I will never let that happen again, obviously, but it has absolutely put a wrench in our plan."

Previous Revelation

Murphy spoke out about her fertility issues on This Morning in January when she revealed she was 'medically allergic' to her husband. After trying to conceive naturally before undergoing a failed round of IVF, she explained: “We got an at-home medical blood testing kit from a company called Fertylisis. They send you the tests in the mail and you give them a blood vial and so we went down to the Pharmacy and got our bloods drawn. We sent them overseas to Greece and we found out that we have a genetic pre-disposition that makes me incompatible with Paul’s DNA – which is crazy.”

Murphy explained that her DNA would 'turn' on Paul's if they attempted to conceive naturally, causing her to be classed as “allergic” to her husband.
