Corrie's Tracy Shaw 'hit hard' in cancer update

Tracy Shaw has told fans she is feeling "absolute rubbish" as she continues her breast cancer battle. The actress, 52, who played Maxine Peacock on Coronation Street from 1995 until 2003, shared the update on social media after her fourth round of chemotherapy.

Latest Update

In her post, she wrote: "Phew round 4 hit hard! I’ve chose to show the moments of Joy I experience, hoping they bring light to those in the same position. Amidst this pain and suffering, I’ve had to dig deep into the constant spiritual growth, to creation and its wonders."

She added: "Knowing what’s coming each cycle doesn’t make it easier, but I’m not panicking, definitely trusting the process, honestly it’s agony, but keeping it in the day. Praying a lot for others. Grateful to have met others to share this journey with, life sisters."

Treatment Effects

In a heartbreaking update, she said: "Feeling absolute rubbish at the moment but 'This too shall pass.'" Tracy has been documenting her chemotherapy journey, admitting the treatment has "wiped" her. She also mentioned struggling with the heat in the hospital and her lowered immune system.

In a video, she explained: "So yesterday I had my first injection of chemo. It’s one which affects my heart so I have to have my heart checked on a regular basis for scans. It really wiped me, I don’t know if it’s because I had to go back into hospital and it’s so hot in there. Why doesn’t the government just look after the guys at the NHS a little bit more and invest a bit more into our hospitals."

She continued: "I’m feeling the effects today. I’ve taken my first injection to help my immune system. Basically from tomorrow I can’t really socialise. My immune system will be really low. The other thing is temperatures. My body is now going to war with that thing in me which doesn’t belong in here."

Coronation Street Role

During her time on Corrie, Maxine was married to butcher Ashley and they had a child together. Viewers watched as Maxine returned home to check on her son Joshua, who was being looked after by Emily Bishop. As she walked through the front door, she met serial killer Richard Hillman, who was stood over Emily's dead body. Maxine tried to run but was killed by Richard.
