Chad Lowe's daughter Fiona's cause of death confirmed

The cause of death of actor Chad Lowe's 13-year-old daughter Fiona has been confirmed by a medical examiner. Fiona Hepler Lowe died by suicide, according to a statement from the medical examiner shared with People on Thursday, October 1.

She was pronounced dead at 1.14am on Tuesday, September 29 at a local hospital. Lowe and his wife Kim Painter announced earlier this week that their daughter had died aged 13.

Family tribute to Fiona

The family paid tribute to Fiona in a statement shared with People, describing her as “a loving young girl who was smart, creative, and loved to dance”. The statement read: “We are deeply heartbroken by the loss of our beloved Fiona.”

“She was adored by her sisters and she was deeply loved by her parents,” the family said. “In fact, she was the light of our lives.”

Fiona was the middle child of Chad and Kim, who also have daughters Mabel, 17, and Nixie, 10. Fiona was also the niece of Hollywood actor Rob Lowe, Chad's brother.

Family's recent losses

Chad, 58, is known for his acting roles in films and television, including Pretty Little Liars. He also recently appeared in 9-1-1: Lone Star as the on-screen brother of his real-life brother Rob Lowe.

The Lowe family has asked for privacy as they grieve the loss of Fiona. The family had also suffered another devastating loss after their home in Pacific Palisades was destroyed in the 2025 wildfires.

In January, Chad shared a series of photos from a visit to the remains of the home where his three daughters had grown up. Alongside the photos, he reflected on the loss in an emotional Instagram post.

He wrote: “One year ago today, our lives got turned upside down by a completely preventable catastrophe. It’s hard not to let the anger, despair, and frustration overwhelm. Losing everything I ever owned and the home we raised our family in is still deeply painful to this day.

“However, this terrible experience has been a powerful reminder of this simple truth - we can’t always control what happens to us in this life but we can control how we respond.

“And I have been so incredibly proud of how my wife Kim and our daughters have strived to make the absolute best of this extraordinarily difficult circumstance. I am in awe of their resilience.”
