Candice Warner, the wife of former Australian cricketer David Warner, has opened up about contemplating suicide after facing intense public backlash over a past tryst with rugby star Sonny Bill Williams. The 40-year-old former Ironwoman state champion was photographed with Williams in 2007, years before meeting her husband, and subsequently endured relentless slut-shaming and mockery.
Speaking on the Mental As Anyone podcast in April, Candice said: 'I definitely contemplated suicide many times. I remember driving to The Gap and pulling over and just thinking there's no way out. I felt like there was no escape. I was ashamed.' She credited a phone call with her brother for preventing her from going through with it, recalling that he told her he was coming to get her and not to do anything stupid.
Candice also appeared on I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! in 2024, where she described the ordeal as 'the hardest period of my life.' She said: 'I make one silly mistake as a young girl and that was it. I remember just the hurt and pain that I caused my family because of comments that were made about me in the media.'
Now married to David Warner since 2015, the couple have three daughters: Ivy, 10, Indi, eight, and Isla, five. Despite their high-profile lives, Candice told Daily Mail Australia she longs for a quieter existence, saying: 'I love the life we've built. Do I wish we could live a quieter life where not everyone knew everything about us? Of course.'
