Billy Joel has cancelled all upcoming concerts after being diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), a brain disorder. The 76-year-old singer announced the news on Friday via a statement on his official Instagram.
The condition, which involves excess cerebrospinal fluid in the brain's ventricles, has been worsened by recent performances, causing issues with hearing, vision and balance. Joel's doctor has advised him to undergo physical therapy and refrain from performing during recovery.
Joel expressed regret for disappointing fans, stating, 'I'm sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience and thank you for understanding.' The cancelled dates include 17 stops in North America and the UK.
The diagnosis comes nearly two years after Joel concluded a record-breaking residency at Madison Square Garden, where he performed monthly for nine years. Despite the setback, his team confirmed he is committed to his health and grateful for fan support.
Next month, the documentary 'Billy Joel: And So It Goes' will premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, featuring unreleased performances and exclusive interviews.
