Beverley Callard Shares Disappointing Cancer Update After Surgery

Actress Beverley Callard, best known for playing Liz McDonald on Coronation Street, has shared a disappointing update on her breast cancer treatment. The 69-year-old, who was diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer earlier this year, revealed that doctors are concerned she should have started radiotherapy sooner.

In a video posted to Instagram on Tuesday evening, Callard explained that her new medical team in Ireland, where she recently relocated with her husband Jon McEwan, noted the delay. 'They are a little concerned because they think I should've started the radiotherapy before now but of course because we moved house, it took a while for my medical records to come from England to Ireland,' she said.

Callard, who now stars in RTÉ soap Fair City, said her hospital appointment went 'okay' but added it was 'not quite what I wanted to hear.' She has another appointment on Thursday and expects to begin treatment soon. 'I'm all ready for it and I'm full of beans and really going for it,' she said, though admitting she is 'a bit nervous.'

The actress first revealed her diagnosis in February on RTE's Late Late Show, saying she received the news just minutes before going on set. She described her head as 'a bit mashed for the first few days' but stressed it was very early stages.
