Coronation Street star Beverley Callard has tearfully admitted she is 'in denial' about her cancer battle. The actress, who played Liz McDonald for 30 years, revealed earlier this year that she had been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer and underwent surgery.
In an emotional Instagram video on Tuesday, the 69-year-old said: 'Today has been a weird day. I had to go register with a new GP because I'm in Ireland for quite a long time now. I filled her in, she was really good. But it made me realise that I'm in denial a lot of the time.'
Callard, who is awaiting results to determine if she is cancer-free, explained that being busy with work has helped her avoid confronting the situation. However, she acknowledged that she must eventually face it.
She said: 'If I'm at work, I've got lines in my head, and scripts, and I'm really busy all the time but suddenly - I'm not. I've got quite a few weeks off now and explaining everything to the GP made me realise that I'm not concentrating on it, which maybe is a good thing.'
The actress, who also appeared on I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!, is currently filming Irish soap Fair City. She will learn in about four weeks whether the surgery was successful in removing all the cancer.
