BBC Breakfast fans are facing a temporary schedule shake-up as the broadcaster prioritises coverage of the Paris 2024 Olympics. From Monday, July 29, the programme will be shortened on BBC One, moving to BBC Two for its final hour.
Presenters Ben Thompson and Sally Nugent started the show at 6am on BBC One but handed over to Olympic coverage at 8am. Sally told viewers: 'Now we are on BBC Two until 9am this morning.' The Olympics coverage, presented by Jeanette Kwayke and JJ Chalmers, will run from 8am to 1pm.
The schedule changes continue throughout the week. On Tuesday and Wednesday, BBC Breakfast will air on BBC One for only 45 minutes before moving to BBC Two from 6:45am to 9am. On Thursday and Friday, the switch occurs at 8am.
This follows a similar cut to Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt's Saturday edition on July 27, which angered some viewers. Disgruntled fans took to X, formerly Twitter, to complain, with one tweeting: '@BBCNews you've cut #bbcbreakfast short! Can't the Olympics wait till 9?'
Other shows are also affected. Morning Live has been taken off air for five weeks, returning on August 26, while The One Show aired its last episode before a summer break on July 25. Hosts Alex Jones and Roman Kemp bid farewell, with Roman saying: 'Enjoy the Olympics, see you on August 12.'
