Alison Hammond shares diagnosis and 'shame' after This Morning exit

Alison Hammond has revealed she suffered a panic attack on live TV after being rushed off This Morning and taken to hospital. The presenter shared the update with fans after being discharged, saying she is "home", "safe" and "feeling so much better".

Rushed off air during Friday's show

Hammond left the broadcast about an hour into Friday's (October 2) programme, which she co-hosts with Dermot O'Leary. Cameras caught O'Leary helping her out of the studio while Dr Scott looked concerned. O'Leary later told viewers: "Welcome back to This Morning, Alison is feeling a little unwell, so she's just had to duck out. Hopefully she'll be back."

Hammond later confirmed she was in hospital and having her heart checked after suffering a "little bit of a palpitation". In a video on Instagram on Friday evening, she said: "Hello my lovelies, I know you're all worried about me. Honestly, I am fine first of all but I'm getting my old ticker checked out."

Panic attack confirmed

She added: "I had a little bit of a palpitation and now I'm getting it all checked out but I think I'm okay. I'm hoping it's just a little panic attack or something like that. I love you all, thank you for all your lovely messages. I'm so sorry I left you, I would never normally do that, I would never leave a TV show. Just so you know I wasn't very well but hopefully I'm going to be alright."

In a second update issued today (October 3), Hammond confirmed she had suffered a panic attack. She thanked the care team at the NHS who looked after her, adding: "I'm all okay. It's all clear, which would mean I had a massive panic attack on live TV. The shame of it. But it felt very real to me. I'm new to panic attacks so I need to learn more about it but I just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone at This Morning who looked after me. This is a new world to me. I'm going to take stock, get some rest and I'll see you soon."

Fans show support

Fans have shown Hammond enormous support since Friday and have been monitoring her social accounts for further updates. In an Instagram story post this afternoon (October 3), she revealed how she spent her time while in hospital, sharing a picture of herself as a contestant on Big Brother with the caption 'Alison Hammonds funny moments' and the tag: "Just cheering myself up."
