Alison Hammond has been given the all clear after she was taken to hospital following a panic attack on live TV. This Morning hosts Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley shared the update at the opening of Monday's programme.
Last week, Hammond was led off the ITV show by co-host Dermot O'Leary while visibly clutching her chest. The programme cut to an advertisement break, and O'Leary returned to explain that Hammond was "feeling a little unwell" and "had to duck out". Hammond later confirmed she had been admitted to hospital for heart checks, revealing she had experienced a "little bit of a palpitation" before clarifying she had suffered a panic attack and had returned home.
Hosts share good news
On Monday, Shephard and Deeley addressed Hammond's condition at the start of the show. They announced: "We wanted to share some good news, please, about Alison. She was taken to hospital for checks, but now, thankfully, she has been given the all clear. Yeah she's home, resting, and already feeling a lot better."
After a clip from Hammond's Instagram was shown, Shephard remarked: "She's being spoiled by everyone at home. She's feeling like a princess." He added: "But she was mostly disappointed that she missed out on the Saturday soup that was being cooked on Friday's show." Deeley responded: "Can we get some over to her, do you think? Because I think she's probably watching the show right now." Shephard concluded: "We need to try and make sure we can sort of recreate that station for her at some point. Maybe this Friday. Fingers crossed if she's back."
Hammond thanks NHS and fans
Posting a video on Instagram over the weekend, Hammond said: "Hi everyone. I'm just getting in touch to let you all know I'm home, I'm safe, and I'm feeling so much better. Thanks to everyone at the NHS who did the checks on my heart, lungs, bloods. I'm all okay. It's all clear." She continued: "Which would mean I had a massive panic attack on live TV. I mean, the shame of it. But it felt very real to me. I'm really new to panic attacks, so I need to learn more about it."
She added: "But I just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone at This Morning who looked after me, all of your messages. Dermot who's just been incredible, like everyone has just honestly, it's really warmed my heart actually. I mean I didn't necessarily want to be on the news or anything like that but I mean this is a new world to me. I'm gonna take stock, get some rest and I'll see you soon. Love ya."
This Morning airs Monday to Friday at 10am on ITV1.
