TV personality Scarlett Moffatt has been seen in public for the first time since sharing the heartbreaking news that she suffered a miscarriage last year. The 35-year-old was spotted heading to a performance in Cheshire, putting on a brave face just days after her emotional revelation.
A Brave Face for the Stage
Scarlett Moffatt was photographed on Tuesday, warmly wrapped in a black leather jacket, offering a small smile to cameras as she walked to the Northwich Memorial Court. The former Gogglebox star is currently performing in the Christmas pantomime Aladdin, where she plays the Spirit of the Ring. The show runs from December 7 to December 31 at the Brio Northwich Memorial Court venue.
Her public appearance follows a deeply personal interview where she disclosed that she and her partner, Scott Dobinson, will not be trying for more children following the loss of a pregnancy. The miscarriage occurred after the birth of their son, Jude, who is now two years old.
The Heartbreaking Decision to Stop Trying
Speaking to The Sun, Scarlett explained that the miscarriage happened "quite late on" in a pregnancy that they had already announced to loved ones. She described mourning the future they had imagined for their family, including scenes of siblings running downstairs together at Christmas.
"I was lying in bed with Scott one day, and I said: 'I just don't think I can handle the heartbreak any more. I think we should stop. We've got Jude, so let's enjoy him'," Scarlett recounted. She expressed immense sympathy for others who go through similar trauma, calling those who continue their fertility journey "so brave" because the experience is "soul-destroying."
Gratitude for NHS Care After Son's Traumatic Birth
The TV star also reflected on the challenging birth of her son Jude in 2023. She experienced significant blood loss during labour, requiring a transfusion despite it being against her initial birth plan. Jude was born prematurely at 35 weeks and 5 days, requiring immediate care for hypoglycemia and jaundice in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
Scarlett has since become a vocal supporter of NICU services, recently partnering with WaterWipes for their Pure Foundation Fund, which recognises staff who go above and beyond for premature babies. She has publicly thanked the team at Durham Hospital, particularly nurses named Helen and Charlotte, for their support.
On the home front, Scarlett revealed that her fiancé, ex-policeman Scott, has taken a two-year career break to become a stay-at-home dad. This arrangement allows Scarlett to return to her television career after taking two years off herself for full-time motherhood. The couple, who got engaged in 2023, are planning to marry next year.
