Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington has announced she is expecting a baby, describing the pregnancy as a 'small miracle' after suffering two heartbreaking miscarriages. The 40-year-old swimming legend shared the news on social media on Tuesday, just days after discussing the stillbirth of her daughter in 2023.
Adlington, who appeared on I'm A Celebrity, has been open about her fertility struggles. In 2022, she lost a baby at 12 weeks, and in 2023, she was five months pregnant when doctors found no heartbeat during a scan. She gave birth to her daughter Harper, who was stillborn.
In her social media post, Adlington wrote: 'We want to share that we are expecting a child. It has been an emotional and physical rollercoaster navigating these past 19 months of trying, but this pregnancy has been a small miracle.' She added that she and her husband, Andy Parsons, are 'cautiously overjoyed' and grateful for the support from the NHS Rainbow Team.
The swimmer previously spoke about the trauma of giving birth to Harper, saying: 'Normally, you go through the birth and you get this wonderful, incredible child. So to not have that... it's really hard.' She said she was glad she chose to see her daughter, as she would have regretted not doing so.
Adlington and Parsons already have a two-year-old son, Albie. She also has an eight-year-old daughter, Summer, from her previous marriage to Harry Needs.
