A heavily pregnant mother has been hailed a hero after making a split-second, life-or-death decision to jump from a second-floor window with her children to escape a terrifying blaze that tore through their home in Ayr, Scotland.
A Night of Terror
In the early hours of the morning, what began as a normal night for the family turned into a nightmare. A ferocious fire erupted, rapidly consuming the property and trapping Danielle McNaught, 28, who is 32 weeks pregnant, along with her three young children on the upper floor.
The Desperate Escape
With smoke filling the rooms and flames blocking the staircase, the family's only route to safety was through a window. Demonstrating astonishing courage, Ms. McNaught helped her children—aged two, four, and six—out onto a narrow ledge before making the heart-stopping leap to the ground below.
"I just knew I had to get my babies out," Ms. McNaught later recounted from her hospital bed. "There was no time to think, only to act. The heat was unbearable, and the smoke was so thick we could barely see."
Community and Emergency Response
