Woman Arrested After Attempted Baby Snatching in Blackpool

A 51-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of child abduction and assaulting a police officer after allegedly attempting to snatch a baby from its pram in Blackpool.

The incident occurred near the promenade around 11.30am on Saturday, close to Coral Island amusements. The woman is said to have approached a family, taken hold of the pram, and tried to walk away with the baby still inside.

Bystanders and the baby's mother intervened, preventing the abduction. The infant was unharmed. Lancashire Constabulary confirmed the arrest and urged the public not to speculate on social media while enquiries continue.

Chief Inspector John Jennings-Wharton said: 'We know that something like this can be very concerning for the community. We are in the early stages of our investigation.'
