A one-year-old boy in Minnesota, USA, has survived an 11-storey fall from an apartment balcony, according to local media reports. Musa Dayib slipped through a railing and landed on a patch of mulch, sustaining two arm fractures and requiring a ventilator to breathe, but doctors expect him to live.
Dr Tina Slusher, who treated Musa, described his survival as a miracle. She noted that an adult falling from such a height would almost certainly be killed, but children are more flexible and less prone to breaking. The soft ground where he landed also contributed to his survival.
Family and friends in Minneapolis's Somali community are in shock. Community activist Abdirizak Bihi told the Star-Tribune that no one could believe the boy survived. He expressed concern for Musa's parents, saying they are devastated and unable to speak.
Dr Slusher added, 'Kids don't fall this far and make it often,' calling the outcome a gift from God to the family.
