A young woman who kept her fertility struggles secret for five years has spoken out about the emotional toll of trying to conceive. Kayleigh Evans, 27, from the UK, recorded video diaries during her lowest moments but felt unable to share them with anyone, including her husband Lee, until now.
Kayleigh and Lee, who met when they were 14, began trying for a baby three years before the videos start. She took pregnancy tests every week, crying each time they were negative. 'I felt so low. No one understands,' she says in one clip. Despite consulting doctors, no cause was found, and they were referred for IVF after losing six stone between them.
Days before treatment was due to begin, Kayleigh discovered she was pregnant. She documented the moment in her video, saying she 'cried with happiness'. The couple now have a two-month-old son, Tyler. Kayleigh posted a 13-minute compilation of her journey on Facebook, which has been watched over 69,000 times.
Kayleigh says she received an overwhelming response from other women struggling with infertility. 'I've had loads of messages from girls going through what I was, saying I gave them hope,' she said. She also criticised the stigma around infertility, saying comments like 'you'll get pregnant when the time's right' are hurtful.
Lee said watching the video was 'rough but nice' and brought back memories of their difficult journey. According to the NHS, one in seven couples may have difficulty conceiving, and for those trying for more than three years, the chance of natural pregnancy within a year is 25% or less.
