A pregnant woman's plan to name her son Aamon has sparked outrage among her religious family, who argue the name is demonic. The mother-to-be claims the name is inspired by a character from the mobile game Mobile Legends, but relatives point out that Aamon is also a Grand Marquis of Hell in demonology, often depicted with a wolf's face and snake's tail.
The family's concerns are heightened by the fact that the woman's sister recently named her daughter Lylyt, pronounced like Lilith, another demonic figure from Jewish folklore. In a Reddit post, the cousin of the pregnant woman wrote: 'One of my cousins previously named her child Lylyt. Her younger sister is pregnant, and she wants to name her child Aamon. I told her she's naming her child after a demon, and she responded with 'You are literally the only one who said that, maybe you're the demon.''
The cousin also noted that their family is very religious and that their pastor would refer to Satan by different names, including Aamon, during sermons. Commenters on the post were critical of the name choices, with one saying: 'Aamon is tragic. Lylyt is the real tragedy here. But regardless, I wish some parents would get it into their heads that they are naming people and not fantasy characters.'
Another commenter suggested the woman might mean Eamon, a Gaelic name, adding: 'Even if not, she'd get less s**t if she'd consider that spelling.' Others pointed out that Lilith has become a feminist symbol in some cultures, but still argued the unconventional spelling Lylyt was 'unacceptable'.
