A professional dancer who was unaware she was pregnant gave birth on the street outside her home after mistaking labour pains for period cramps. Katie Brown, 27, from the UK, went into labour ten weeks ago and delivered her son William on the pavement after paramedics arrived.
Speaking on ITV's This Morning, Katie explained that she woke up with severe abdominal pain and initially took paracetamol, thinking it was period pain. When the pain worsened, she called her mother, who suspected appendicitis. Katie then rang for an ambulance, which arrived at 9:30am.
As paramedics escorted her outside, she dropped to her hands and knees and gave birth at 9:50am. 'I'm on the street,' she told hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary. Her mother caught the baby's head as he emerged.
Katie, who already has a daughter, said she did not realise she was in labour. 'I genuinely thought I was just having a massive poo,' she admitted. She had continued to menstruate normally and had no visible bump, which Dr Zoe on the show explained was a cryptic pregnancy, possibly linked to Katie being on the combined oral contraceptive pill.
