An 18-year-old man has been arrested and charged with three counts of burglary after disturbing home surveillance footage showed him breaking into a house and hovering over a sleeping toddler in his crib while his parents slept nearby.
Christopher Gomez was taken into custody on Thursday night in Katy, Texas, near Houston, the same town where he broke into the home of the Le family on 5 April. Police picked him up on other outstanding warrants.
In court on Friday, Gomez admitted he was the man in the video, seen peering into the crib of two-year-old boy and pointing a flashlight at him. He also confessed to breaking into two other homes that same night. A magistrate set bond at $250,000 for each of the three burglary charges.
The baby's father, Thinh Le, told KPRC: 'I feel relieved that this person is in custody. He should move on and do better with his life.' Le added that he believed the teen knew he was being filmed because he occasionally looked towards the cameras but continued anyway.
Gomez entered the family's home through an unlocked first-floor window. He stole a laptop, which was later found on a neighbour's lawn. Gomez has a prior criminal record, including convictions for car theft and marijuana possession.
