Vintage baby names last popular in the early 1900s are predicted to make a comeback in 2025, according to data from Nameberry, a leading baby name website. The trend shows an uptick in old-fashioned names for both boys and girls, with choices like Alberta, Delphine, and Sybil for girls, and Ambrose, Edmund, and Barnaby for boys.
Nameberry reports that names such as Alice, Sadie, Archie, and Theodore have been popular for years, but the new wave of classics is unlikely to enter the top 100 soon. Other rising girl names include Emmeline, Thora, and Aphra, while Claude, Percy, and Laurie are gaining traction for boys.
Australian parenting blog Mum Central also compiled a list of 'edgy' baby names for 2025, including Atlas, Steele, and Maverick for boys, and Elodie, Pandora, and Ottoline for girls. Mythological names like Persephone and Pandora are trending, along with animal-inspired names such as Cub.
According to Datayze, only one in every 17,610 baby boys born in 2020 was named Steele. Calendar-inspired names like May, April, and June remain popular, with Jora, meaning 'autumn rain', emerging as a new option.
