Author Jane Fallon has shared a positive health update after undergoing a second surgery for breast cancer, saying the procedure went well and she is 'looking forward to getting back to normal'.
Writing on Instagram, the 65-year-old revealed that doctors had achieved the clear margin needed on the original excision, but also found a small patch of precancerous cells on the other side of the newly removed tissue. She said everyone agreed further surgery would be overkill.
Ms Fallon, the long-term partner of comedian Ricky Gervais, said she saw an oncologist and they agreed the risks of radiation outweigh the benefits in her case. She is now considering taking Tamoxifen or a similar drug, or opting for a 'wait and see' approach, which she said is her preferred option.
She admitted she is 'very nervous' about going down the drug route, knowing the side effects can be hideous, but said there is no pressure to make a quick decision.
In March, Ms Fallon disclosed her diagnosis, which was caught early after a routine mammogram before Christmas. She said at the time that she had no symptoms, the prognosis was excellent, and surgery was scheduled. She has since been focusing on audiobooks and jigsaws while recovering.
The bestselling novelist has written 14 books, including Got You Back and Queen Bee, and has also worked as a television producer on shows such as EastEnders and Teachers. She has been in a relationship with Ricky Gervais since 1982.
