Coronation Street legend Tracy Shaw has been diagnosed with breast cancer, she has revealed. The actress, best known for playing Maxine Peacock in the soap for over seven years, shared the news in a video on social media.
Shaw, 52, said she will begin chemotherapy for five months before undergoing surgery to remove lumps and lymph nodes. She explained that her results showed she is HER2 positive, which necessitated chemo before the operation.
The actress, who was born in Belper, Derbyshire, also said she had decided to stay off social media during Lent, which helped her process the diagnosis. She wrote: 'My diagnosis of breast cancer. So the journey begins... Love to everyone who is also going through this journey.'
Many of her former co-stars offered support, including Samia Longchambon, who said 'Sending love to you Tracy,' and Sally Ann Matthews, who wrote 'Love you baby girl x.'
According to the NHS, breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women in the UK, with treatment typically including surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, hormone therapy, and targeted medicines.
