Christina Applegate has revealed she was recently hospitalised for a week after being diagnosed with a double kidney infection. The 53-year-old actress, best known for her role in Netflix's Dead to Me, spoke about her ordeal on the latest episode of her podcast, MeSsy.
Applegate told co-host Jamie-Lynn Sigler that she began feeling unwell while on holiday in Europe and decided to go to hospital as soon as she landed in Los Angeles. She described experiencing excruciating pain on her right side, which prompted an emergency CT scan at 2am. The scan revealed kidney infections, and she was treated with antibiotics.
In a statement to US media after the episode aired, Applegate confirmed she had been treated for the infection and was now at home. “I’m home and have been treated for the kidney infection. As far as my ongoing stomach thing, it’s a work in progress. I was there seven days,” she told People magazine.
Applegate was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) in August 2021, which led to a five-month pause in production on Dead to Me. She has since spoken candidly about the challenges of living with the neurological condition, including severe depression due to debilitating pain.
