Kirsty Gallacher has shared a fresh update on her ongoing battle with a brain tumour, which was first diagnosed in 2021. The television presenter revealed that she is scheduled for an MRI scan to assess the effectiveness of radiotherapy she underwent to treat the growth.
The Nature of the Tumour
The tumour, known as an acoustic neuroma, is located in her right ear canal and has left her with significant hearing loss in that ear. Due to its position, the tumour is considered inoperable, meaning surgical removal is not an option.
Radiotherapy and Its Prospects
Gallacher previously underwent radiotherapy in an attempt to shrink the tumour and halt its progression. She noted that while this treatment has a high success rate for reducing the size of the tumour and stopping its growth, it will not eliminate it entirely. The upcoming MRI will provide crucial information on whether the radiotherapy has achieved its intended effect.
The presenter remains optimistic but realistic about her condition, acknowledging that the tumour will likely be a long-term companion. She continues to manage her health while maintaining her professional commitments.
Gallacher's openness about her health journey has been praised by fans and medical professionals alike, as it raises awareness about acoustic neuromas and the challenges faced by those living with brain tumours.
