Conjoined Twin Reveals How She Respects Sister's Privacy During Intimate Moments

Conjoined twin Carmen Andrade has opened up about how she and her sister Lupita navigate intimate moments with Carmen's husband, Daniel McCormack. The twins, who are joined at the torso and share some organs, have been open about the unique challenges their situation presents.

Carmen married Daniel in October 2024 after meeting on the dating app Hinge in 2020. The couple now lives in Connecticut. Lupita, who is asexual, has developed strategies to give the couple privacy, including using headphones and her phone to distract herself.

Speaking to PEOPLE, Carmen said the sisters are 'constantly talking' about boundaries. 'If my sister isn't comfortable with a private moment, we respect that,' she explained. Lupita added, 'I have headphones and a phone. I don’t care.'

Carmen noted that she is not naturally overly affectionate, saying, 'I think there's a societal expectation that there needs to be affection the entire time. But all we do is joke around a lot of the time.' She admitted that she and Daniel sometimes feel guilty for the time they spend together, but they try to balance it.

Daniel expressed frustration with public curiosity about their private life, stating, 'People are obsessed with sex. It’s none of your business.' Carmen echoed this, saying, 'I don’t understand why people need to know about my private parts in order to humanize us.'

The twins, originally from Mexico, have defied doctors' expectations by living well past predictions. They share ribs, their entire circulatory system, and digestive and reproductive systems, but each has their own heart, lungs, and stomach. Separation surgery was deemed too risky due to potential neurological problems or death.
