Former Coronation Street actress Kym Marsh has partnered with the NHS in a poignant new campaign to highlight the dangers of prostate cancer, following the heartbreaking loss of her father to the disease.
The 47-year-old star, who played Michelle Connor on the ITV soap, revealed how her father, David Marsh, passed away in February 2021 after battling prostate cancer. Now, she is using her platform to urge men to get checked early.
Kym's Emotional Plea
In a heartfelt message, Kym shared: "Losing my dad was devastating. If we had caught it sooner, things might have been different. I don’t want other families to go through what we did."
The NHS campaign aims to educate men about the symptoms of prostate cancer, which can often go unnoticed until it’s too late. Common signs include difficulty urinating, blood in urine, and persistent pain in the back or pelvis.
Why Early Detection Matters
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK, with over 52,000 new cases diagnosed each year. However, survival rates are significantly higher when detected early.
Kym is encouraging men over 50, or those with a family history of the disease, to speak to their GP about screening options. "A simple test could save your life," she stressed.
How You Can Help
The NHS is also calling for more volunteers to support cancer awareness initiatives. Whether through fundraising or sharing information, every effort helps in the fight against this silent killer.
Kym’s involvement adds a deeply personal touch to the campaign, reminding us all of the importance of health checks and early intervention.
