Prince Harry has redirected his share of the annual proceeds from the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund away from Sentebale, the charity he co-founded in 2006, to Botswana-based charity Elephants Without Borders, according to The Telegraph.
Fallout with Sentebale
The shift follows a severe rift in 2025 between Prince Harry and Sentebale’s board chairman, Sophie Chandauka. This led to Harry stepping down as patron, trustee resignations, and a defamation lawsuit filed by the charity against him over allegations of a damaging media campaign, which Harry rejected.
New Funding for Elephant Conservation
The new funds were used by Elephants Without Borders to fit satellite-tracking collars on two elephants in Botswana's Okavango Delta. The elephants were named "Archie" and "Lili" after the Sussexes' children, who chose blue and purple colours for the collars, respectively.
The Duke of Sussex has known the charity's founder, Dr Mike Chase, for over 20 years. The organisation has previous ties to the couple, including a 2017 visit with Meghan Markle early in their relationship and Meghan donating her voiceover fee from Disney’s Elephant documentary to the non-profit.
Management of Diana Fund Assets
Though the Diana Memorial Fund legally closed in 2012, its remaining assets and occasional legacy donations are managed by the Royal Foundation, headed by William and Catherine. Since Prince Harry and Prince William separated their charitable activities in 2020, they split any continuing proceeds 50/50 to donate to their chosen causes.
