Disney World's Oldest Gorilla Gino Dies at 44

Disney World is mourning the loss of Gino, a 44-year-old western lowland gorilla who was the oldest at Animal Kingdom and a resident since the park opened in 1998. The theme park announced his death on Wednesday, describing him as a beloved member of the family.

In a Facebook post, Disney's Animals, Science and Environment wrote: 'We are heartbroken to share the passing of Gino, our beloved 44-year-old western lowland gorilla. For nearly 30 years, Gino touched countless lives at Disney's Animal Kingdom with his playful spirit, gentle humor, and steady presence as a devoted father and troop leader.'

Gino, who would have turned 45 in December, leaves behind 14 offspring and a legacy of contributions to gorilla care and conservation. He was known for beating his chest regularly and was a standout attraction at the Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail in the Africa Pavilion.
