A small, defenceless dog was left to face the freezing elements alone after being heartlessly abandoned in a plastic crate on a residential street in Merseyside. The shocking discovery was made by a concerned member of the public on Saturday, 20th January, on Cornwall Street in St Helens.
A Desperate Discovery in the Cold
The adorable Shih Tzu-type cross, now named Snoop by his rescuers, was found shivering and terrified inside a white plastic pet carrier. He had been cruelly dumped next to a wheelie bin, left with no food, water, or protection from the bitterly cold weather.
RSPCA Animal Rescue Officer (ARO) Stephanie Daly was dispatched to the scene. "He's such a sweet-natured little dog but he was very scared and nervous when I collected him," she reported. "It's heartbreaking to think that someone could just leave him like that, especially in such cold conditions."
Seeking Answers and Justice
The RSPCA has launched a full investigation into the incident and is urgently appealing to the local community for information. ARO Daly emphasised the importance of public help: "We're really keen to find out who is responsible for abandoning this poor dog. We believe the crate may have been left outside for some time before he was found."
Anyone with details about who owned Snoop or who might have dumped him is urged to contact the RSPCA's appeals line, quoting reference number 01141079. All calls are treated with the strictest confidence.
Snoop's Road to Recovery
Fortunately, despite his ordeal, Snoop is now safe in the care of the RSPCA's Greater Manchester Animal Hospital. A veterinary check-up revealed a glimmer of hope amidst the neglect.
"Thankfully, he doesn't have any major health concerns at the moment," ARO Daly confirmed. "He is underweight and his coat was quite matted, but he's already doing much better. Once he's ready, he'll be moved to one of our animal centres to find the loving, forever home he truly deserves."
This case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of animal welfare. The RSPCA continues to champion the message that abandoning a pet is never the answer and encourages anyone struggling to care for their animal to seek help from charities and rescue organisations.
