Coleen and Wayne Rooney have received an outpouring of support from fans after sharing a "special" family update. The couple posed for a photo wearing matching pyjamas from the latest Matalan and Alder Hey collaboration, continuing an annual family tradition.
The family have been in the media spotlight recently following the release of their Disney Plus series, The Real Rooneys. The ten-part series followed the family through a significant year in their lives. Coleen, a mother of four, regularly shares glimpses into their home life on Instagram, from weekly routines to summer getaway snaps.
Annual pyjama tradition
In the recent post, Coleen and Wayne sat on the sofa with their youngest sons, Cass, eight, and Kit, 10. All four wore blue gingham print pyjamas from the new Matalan and Alder Hey range. The clothing brand has partnered with the children's charity for over a decade, raising more than £6.1m for Alder Hey since 2014.
Every year, Matalan launches a family pyjama range with 100% of profits donated to the charity. This year's collection, called "Cared For With Love", features gingham prints and the iconic Alder Hey elephant. It is available in selected Matalan stores.
Fan comments on pockets
Sharing the photo on Instagram, Coleen wrote: "Alder Hey is such a special place, and we know how much love and care they give to children and their families. We love our new @alderhey_inspired x @shopmatalan PJs, and it’s great knowing that 100% of the profits go to Alder Hey Children’s Charity."
Fans flooded the comments, with one writing: "Love that you do this every year, so amazing xxxxxx." Alder Hey responded: "Looking good guys! Thank you for all your continued support of Alder Hey, you are such a wonderful part of our family." Actress and model Amy Jackson added: "Love this so much!!!"
Hundreds of fans focused on the pyjamas' pockets, a detail Wayne recently discussed on The Real Rooneys. The former footballer said he doesn't mind the tradition, as long as his pyjamas have pockets. Comments included "Hope they have pockets", "I hope they’ve got pockets for Wayne", "But do they have pockets" and "But does Wayne’s have pockets?"
Emmerdale star Michelle Hardwick wrote: "Everyone has beaten me to it with the pockets comment. A wonderful cause." The Alder Hey collection is available online at Matalan.com and in selected stores, with customers encouraged to shop early due to previous collections proving highly popular.
