Tourists have been criticised for leaving bizarre reviews of a popular Cornish beach, complaining about 'sticky sand' and 'cold water'. Porthminster Beach in St Ives received scathing comments on TripAdvisor, with one visitor describing the sand as 'the wrong sort' and 'very sticky'.
Another reviewer labelled the beach 'hideous, overcrowded, noisy, covered in litter', and said it was 'hell on earth'. The comments are among several negative reviews of attractions in Cornwall, including Carbis Bay, dubbed 'Garbage Bay', and Porthgwidden Beach, called 'contaminated'.
Despite the criticism, tourism is vital to Cornwall, contributing nearly a quarter of its gross domestic product. The county attracts around five million visitors each year, many of whom enjoy its beaches and coastline.
