Families explore new County Durham woodland with 7,500 trees

Around 160 families attended a free community Woodland Adventure Day hosted by North East environmental company Microsite at its flagship site, Emmaus Youth Village in County Durham. The event celebrated the opening of the new public community woodland, where activities, walks and talks took place.

Woodland activities and wildlife discovery

The day was filled with woodland-based activities and gave locals the chance to connect with the new space, which has been in the works since March this year. Families could learn about the woodland from the planning stage, its creation, and discover the wildlife that currently lives there, as well as the animals that may soon call the area home.

The event was hosted alongside OASES and Rewilding Adventure, and featured a series of pictures from the day showing families taking part in the activities.

A new community space

Emmaus Youth Village spans 8.24 hectares and consists of 7,500 newly planted trees, a community orchard, native broadleaf woodland, wildflower habitats, open spaces and ponds.

Alex Prudhoe, Community Engagement Lead, said: “We love bringing events like this to local communities. We think it’s really important, and it’s really good to give back and get people involved.”
