Several major fires have been reported across Wales, with dramatic scenes of flames and thick smoke emerging from multiple areas up and down the country. Fires have been reported by members of the public in Swansea, Pembrokeshire, Gwynedd and in the Bannau Brycheiniog national park.
Swansea and Pembrokeshire blazes
In Swansea, a member of the public has reported that a significant fire is currently burning in Mayhill, just below the former Swansea Boys Club around 8pm on Sunday, August 23. The blaze appears serious, with flames and thick smoke clearly visible from a considerable distance. The resident reported that the fire was visible from Altitude28 Restaurant, located at the Maritime Quarter in Swansea.
Further fires have also been reported on the moors between Ebbw Vale and Crickhowell. Footage sent to WalesOnline from the moors between Ebbw Vale and Crickhowell showed thick smoke rising high above the area.
Rural fires and hill fire in Gwynedd
In rural Pembrokeshire, footage and images show large plumes of smoke rising above the landscape. There have also been reports of a field fire approximately 1.2 kilometres north of Mathry in Pembrokeshire, with smoke billowing across the surrounding rural land.
Meanwhile, firefighters have rushed to tackle a major hill fire on Rhiw Mountain on the Llŷn Peninsula in Gwynedd. The incident is the second wildfire reported in North Wales following an overnight fire in Denbighshire.
