Areas in the UK will climb to 36C as a new heatwave is set to surpass temperatures in Greece in a handful of regions. The hot spell starts at the end of July and carries into August, with the Met Office warning that conditions could turn "very warm again by the start of August".
Areas Hotter Than Greece
Weather maps show temperatures climbing next week on Wednesday, July 29, with some areas forecast a whopping 36C. This is hotter than the majority of areas in Greece, which will only reach 35C. The areas hotter than Greece include Greater London, Surrey, Berkshire, and Buckinghamshire.
Other Hot Regions
Although not quite surpassing the Mediterranean heat, several other areas will also climb to the mid-thirties. Places near the coast in Sussex are likely to reach 35C, as further north Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire will also see 35C. Most areas across England are likely to sit above 30C, with Yorkshire forecast to reach 30C and Greater Manchester possibly reaching 31C.
Potential Impact
If temperatures reach these highs, chaos could erupt across the nation again, with service delays across transport and health departments. If temperatures continue, an official heatwave will occur, defined as a prolonged period of excessively hot and humid weather lasting for three or more days.
Met Office Forecast
The Met Office forecast for this period says: "A changeable period is likely overall, with many areas likely to see a mixture of bright or sunny spells and some rain at times. Temperatures will be near or above normal, warmest in the south, and perhaps becoming very warm again by the start of August."
