New weather maps from WXCharts.com indicate that temperatures across the UK are set to surge again early next week, with peaks of 34C expected by July 28. The forecast shows that 24 counties will climb above 30C, particularly in southern England.
Southern England to See Highest Temperatures
The warmest areas will be in the south, including Greater London, Berkshire, and Cambridgeshire. Surrounding regions such as Hertfordshire, Kent, and Sussex are also forecast to reach at least 30C. Other counties expected to experience high temperatures include Dorset, Somerset, Devon, Cornwall, Wiltshire, Hampshire, West Sussex, East Sussex, Surrey, Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Essex, Kent, Bedfordshire, Suffolk, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire, the Midlands, and Yorkshire.
Met Office Forecast
The Met Office forecast for July 24 to August 2 states: “There are signs that high pressure will return, which means dry conditions would resume, especially in the south.” It adds: “Winds will be mostly light or moderate, occasionally fresh around northern coasts. Temperatures are expected to be near or above normal, warmest in the south, perhaps becoming very warm again by the start of August.”
Wales and Scotland Also Warm
Wales and Scotland will also experience warm weather during this period, but temperatures are not expected to be as high as those in England.
Cooler Start to the Week
The heat surge follows a cooler start to the week, with the Met Office predicting scattered showers and rainfall.
Not as Hot as Previous Records
Although Brits can expect high temperatures, the highs will not reach the previous records set during last month's heatwave. On June 26, the hottest day was recorded in Lingford, Norfolk, reaching 37.7C.
Record Number of Days Above 34C
Earlier this month, temperatures exceeded 34C for the eighth day this year, according to the Met Office, setting a new record for the highest number of days in a calendar year to reach or exceed 34C. The previous record was seven days, set in 1976 and 2020.
