Stop Dust Sticking to Skirting Boards and Blinds with 1 Common Household Item
Stop Dust on Skirting Boards and Blinds with Dryer Sheets

Cleaning expert Kerry, founder of Blissful Domestication, has shared a simple and inexpensive method to keep dust away from blinds and skirting boards for weeks: rubbing them with tumble dryer sheets. The anti-static coating on dryer sheets neutralizes static electricity, which attracts dust, and leaves a thin waxy layer that repels particles.

How Dryer Sheets Work Against Dust

Dryer sheets are designed to prevent clothes from clinging due to static. When wiped on surfaces like blinds or skirting boards, they absorb static electricity and deposit fabric softener, creating a barrier that stops dust from sticking. Kerry explains: "My top tip for a quick clean of venetian blinds? Use a tumble dryer sheet for a quick dust. The sheet just picks up all the dust perfectly and smells amazing too. Also extremely useful for dusting the tops of your skirting board."

Step-by-Step Cleaning Guide

To apply the hack, first vacuum the skirting boards and mop if needed. Dry them with a microfibre cloth to remove moisture, which can attract dust. Then, rub dryer sheets across blinds, skirting boards, windowsills, and bookcases. The room should stay dust-free for at least a month, depending on air circulation. This method reduces cleaning frequency and effort, targeting often-neglected surfaces.
