Deadly Wildfire in Los Gallardos Claims 12 Lives

A wildfire in Los Gallardos, Spain, has killed at least 12 people, with some bodies discovered in burnt-out cars, as Europe endures a severe 40C heatwave. Firefighters continue to battle the flames.

Death Toll Rises to 12

"The number of people who died in the fire in Los Gallardos has risen to 12 after the confirmation of six more deaths," the regional government of Andalusia said in a statement on 10 July 2026. The initial report confirmed six deaths, but the toll doubled as more bodies were found.

Heatwave Fuels Fire

The wildfire is one of several across Europe exacerbated by a relentless heatwave, with temperatures reaching 40°C. The extreme heat has created dry conditions, making it difficult for emergency services to contain the blaze.
